Interesting site. I am interested in my ancestor Hugh Wright from Kippen, who left Scotland before 1735 and went to Holland in the military service (Scots Brigade). I am very anxious about my roots in Scotland, but realise how difficult it is. Maybe other Wright familymembers also left Kippen and emigrated to Canada. If there is a connection with Wright and Kippen in your family tree please contact me. If you know how to help me further that would be great. Roely Wright, Holland.

Great story.Lizzie Dougals brother Jim was married to my great great aunt Lizzie Welsh. They all came from Kippen. He was the son of the local watchmaker and postmaster, she was the daughter of the local joiner. The Lizzies were perhaps old school friends. Its fascinating to know how they all came to be in Rothesay at the start of the 20th century.

Your story almost echoes that of a man I am researching (no relation) - who also went to Canada in 1912 from Tilbury with his family - they ended up in Vancouver where his father HH was a builder and architect. There are lots of his autobiographical papers in our local library - his name was Donald Gillingham and he wrote 'Unto The Fields' a book about our local beauty spot. He died young at the age of 56 back here in Loughton. I wondered if you had ever come across him or his family the Hartleys in Vancouver. Yours is a fascinating history beautifully written. As Donald had no family I am attempting to write up his story for him Very Best wishes Jan

Just stumbled on your website. In the 1970's I heard about a pool table in the Old Pacific Hotel. I guess it's true! I've been through on the train but hope to someday explore the townsite on foot. Your website is very interesting. Thanks.

Very nice and very interesting. My grandparents, Emanuel and Karen Haroldson, as well as my father, Stan Haroldson lived in Pacific for a period. I believe in the fourties. My aunt Elsie(nee Haroldson) probably also lived there for a short period. My grandfather we a lineman for the railroad. My father has a lot of fond memories from living there, especially the dances in the hall. And he still wants to go back fishing at Fiddler Creek. My father, grandfather and I paddled the canoe across the river for a visit in about 1977, and I think it was a little sad for them to see what was left. But maybe Dad and I will get back for a fishing trip again soon. Thanks for the great site. Terry

Hi.. It is fathers day and while waiting for my kids to arrive i was playing spades with you. I was booted from the game and took the chance to look at your wonderful site. I was amazed at the time and effort it must have taken to comprise all the information and pictures. I read the entire story, every chapter, and was entertained the whole way. I come from a background that is close to this, but in a very different climate. My family homesteaded in the smokey mountains and that original homestead remains today, protected by the National Park Service. It is call Cades Cove, Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. You would enjoy doing a search on Cades Cove and visiting the heritage. My family's name was Tipton, John Tipton was the first settler. Anyway, back to your page. I thank you so much for the chance to visit. Your family must be so proud of what you have given them with your work on the site. I still have more to see here but wanted to drop a note and say thank you. Hope to see you in spades again soon..

Thanx for the enjoyable time on your site. My mother was Adelaine Clifford, grandaughter of C.W.D.

Gail, What a wonderful memorial. Too often we lose touch with our past, as I have done, but I often wonder about my forebears. I know that here in South Australia, the library is always looking for memorabilia about our migrants. Hopefully your library is also collating records, and that you are a contributer. Once again, thank you for this wonderful insight. J & Jj

Hi Gail, I viewed your website thanks to Freida Gilstein Eriksen. I really enjoyed it. I live in Prince Rupert, now, although I grew up in Victoria and graduated in 1965 from Vic High as you did. I have similar roots to yours. My grandparents moved to Rupert in 1917, and some other Eby cousins moved to Terrace about 10 years earlier. They ran Eby's Hotel. I have some information about that at my website under Ed. Eby. If you are interested send me an email. I am away from home right now so don't have access to all of it. Cheers, Dawn Eby Quast

Always enlightening and fun to read about the lives of the people long before us - how they lived, what they endured, how they prospered. Your site is nicely put together and the pictures are just awesome - how they tell a story even on their own! Fabulous site! Much success in your further research.

We have really enjoyed reading your stories as well as viewing the many pictures. Very well laid out and interesting too. We saw several pictures of Dorreen, the village East of Pacific. We have almost completed rebuilding/expanding a 1942 log cabin in Dorreen. It was last lived in by the McNab family. It had been empty for close to 30 years. It has been a lot of hard work, but we are quite proud of what we have done. We sure appreciate the support of many nice folks. It will soon be a lovely peaceful place for us and our 3 children and their partners and their 4 "little ones" to visit for a while. Stewart

Hi Gail: Your web pages are great. I had purchased the story from BC Archives but it is great to read it and see the pictures. My Grandparents (Charles and Margaret Durham) with 5 children came to Kitselas Canyon in 1903 - Jack McCubbin was a friend of theirs - think he went to war with Grandpa. Think there might be a picture around. I know there is one with him in a canoe in another picture (1913) and some of my aunts knew the McCubbin girls. My Mom looked after the Post Office after Patterson left and until they left Kitselas and moved to Usk in 1917. I have a copy of the Big Canyon Weekly by Enoch Jones. Too bad I didn't have more. I helped Mrs. Bennett publish two books on the area, Pioneer Legacy: Chronicles of the Lower Skeena River, Vols. I and II. Sure learned a lot. A small group of us have a web page on the Terrace Public Library site - just added two Usk stories this a.m. The college is always sending pupils to learn of the local history and two girls have recently been doing stories on Pacific and Usk. Ernest Hicks passed on your web address - is it okay to pass it on to the College and put the link on our Library page? It's valuable information! Wish I knew how to do the web page such as yours - we have to get the young fellow at the library to do ours - did not have time to do pictures properly this a.m. but at least they are there.
